District 3-5 DeKalb County Board of Health

This fellowship posting is in the DeKalb County Board of Health in Decatur, Georgia. The fellow selected for this position will be an employee of Emory University’s Rollins School of Public Health for the duration of the fellowship, but will spend their time working as a level 1 epidemiologist within the DeKalb County Board of Health. This position has the ability to work remotely for 2-3 days per week.

The Fellow can expect to engage in a variety of epidemiologic activities with priorities being:

  1. COVID-19 contact tracing and case/outbreak investigations
  2. COVID-19 data analysis
  3. preparing regular COVID-19 epidemiologic reports

In addition to regular duties, the Fellow will need to complete an oral/poster presentation and at least two required analytic, evaluation, or quality improvement projects such as: 

  • Assessing effectiveness of COVID-19 vaccination efforts and chronic disease health screenings undertaken by Mobile Health Clinics (MHCs) in DeKalb’s under-resourced communities.
  • Analyzing data from the 2019 Youth Risk Behavior Surveillance System into a structured data report.
  • Assessing data collection protocols for DeKalb’s Tuberculosis (TB) and Refugee Health Clinics.
  • Assisting in the creation of DCBOH’s online data dashboard.
  • Conducting a detailed review of DCBOH’s COVID-response efforts and evaluating the first 2 years of the COVID-19 pandemic response.
