District 3-2 Fulton County Board of Health

This fellowship posting is in District 3-2 Fulton County Board of Health in Atlanta, Georgia. The fellow selected for this position will be an employee of Emory University’s Rollins School of Public Health for the duration of the fellowship, but will spend their time working as a level 1 epidemiologist within the Fulton County Board of Health. 

The Fellow can expect to engage in a variety of epidemiologic activities with priorities being:

  1. Case and outbreak investigations for notifiable diseases
  2. Surveillance system data entry, cleaning and management for notifiable diseases
  3. Data analysis for notifiable diseases

In addition to regular duties, the Fellows will need to complete an oral/poster presentation and at least two required analytic, evaluation, or quality improvement projects such as:

    • Investigating case and outbreaks for other notifiable diseases such as Hepatitis A, Vaccine-Preventable and Communicable diseases, etc.
    • Examining Syndromic Surveillance data to measure the effectiveness and efficiency of the program in the early detection of clusters and outbreaks. 
    • Producing Weekly Epidemiology Reports, School and Pediatric Reports, and Vaccination Reports on COVID-19.
    • Reviewing, analyzing and developing a ‘Standard Operating Procedures’ (SOP) document for surveillance, epidemiology, mitigation and management of cases and outbreaks in the community.
    • Extracting, collating, and analyzing COVID-19 death certificates to explore comorbidity patterns.
    • Developing a survey to determine the long-term effects of COVID-19. 
    • Developing a survey on COVID-19 vaccination hesitancy and the impacts of vaccination and non-vaccination.
