District 9-1 Coastal

This fellowship position is in District 9-1 Coastal in Savannah, Georgia. The fellow selected for this position will be an employee of Emory University’s Rollins School of Public Health for the duration of the fellowship, but will spend their time working as a level 1 epidemiologist within the Coastal district. This position will be fully in-person.

The Fellow can expect to engage in a variety of routine epidemiologic activities in this position including:

• Investigating all Georgia notifiable diseases and outbreaks with the exception of STDs/HIV/TB.
• Data analysis and preparation of epidemiological reports.
• Quality improvement/performance improvement activities.
• Emergency preparedness activities as needed due to geographic location (Coastal Georgia).
• Health equity and chronic disease prevention activities.
• Interacting with the community, community partners, and clinic staff.

In addition to regular duties, the Fellow will need to complete an oral/poster presentation and at least two required analytic, evaluation, or quality improvement projects. Examples of projects in this district include:

• Assisting with updating a strategic plan for the Coastal Health District. This would involve assessing the community’s health status, implementing, evaluating and improving policies, programs, and services, focus group facilitation/information collection, policy development and programmatic planning, as well as leadership and systems thinking
• Assisting with development of a District Program Annual Report.
• Collecting and/or analyzing data on notifiable diseases of interest (retrospective analysis of zoonotic disease in the Coastal Health District for example).

Preferred Fellow background and skills include:

• General microbiology knowledge a plus.
