District 8-1 South

This fellowship position is in District 8-1 South in Valdosta, Georgia. The fellow selected for this position will be an employee of Emory University’s Rollins School of Public Health for the duration of the fellowship but will spend their time working as a level 1 epidemiologist within the South district.  The Fellow should expect to work in-person.

The Fellow can expect to engage in a variety of routine epidemiologic activities in this position including:

• Engaging in efforts focused on enteric diseases and infectious diseases such as HIV, STI’s, and TB.
• Cross training across multiple disciplines.
• Community outreach projects and presentations.
• Data entry and collection.

In addition to regular duties, the Fellow will need to complete an oral/poster presentation and at least two required analytic, evaluation, or quality improvement projects. Examples of projects in this district include:

• Assisting in health equity efforts in District 8-1 pertaining to the infectious disease program, especially in rural areas. This involves identifying and assisting vulnerable populations and providing data to support efforts for addressing such populations. The fellow should be open to learning more about infectious diseases (HIV, TB, enteric, etc.) and how it affects the community.
• Engaging and communicating with partners and diverse groups through presentations about district-specific topics that are of interest to the community. The fellow will aid in strengthening best practices, partnerships, and data analysis within the District.
