District 3-5 DeKalb Public Health
This fellowship posting is in District 3-5 Dekalb Public Health in Decatur, Georgia. The fellow selected for this position will be an employee of Emory University’s Rollins School of Public Health for the duration of the fellowship but will spend their time working as a level 1 epidemiologist within the DeKalb District. Fellows may be able to work remotely for 1 day per week.
The Fellow can expect to engage in a variety of routine epidemiologic activities in this position including:
- Completing Mpox, enteric disease and COVID-19 case investigations.
- Managing outbreak investigations involving long-term care facilities and participating in routine data analyses and data management.
- Cross-training on other reportable diseases.
- Joining other epi team members in emergency responses as disease situations arise.
- Creating and presenting educational materials/presentations for both internal and external audiences.
- Engaging in community outreach, presenting public health information/epidemiology data to external and internal partners, and answering epidemiology-related inquiries from the general public.
In addition to regular duties, the Fellow will need to complete an oral/poster presentation and at least two required analytic, evaluation, or quality improvement projects. Examples of projects in this district include:
- Developing data collection solutions using REDCap and electronic health records alongside other members of the epi team to ensure data collection is standardized and adheres to best practices. The Fellow will share information about the tools to DeKalb Public Health staff members in a wide variety of roles and levels of data experience.
- Participating in the creation of DeKalb Public Health’s 2025 Status of Health report. The report provides a profile of DeKalb County demographics, and an overview of health in DeKalb County. Creating this report involves data analysis, data visualization, written communication, and understanding how to communicate about a wide variety of health topics.
Preferred Fellow background and skills include:
- Experience in conducting public health surveillance and analyzing epidemiologic data at the local or state public health level.
- The ability to translate complex data/concepts into everyday language.
