District 3-2 Fulton County Board of Health
This fellowship position is in District 3-2 Fulton County Board of Health in Atlanta, Georgia. The fellow selected for this position will be an employee of Emory University’s Rollins School of Public Health for the duration of the fellowship but will spend their time working as a level 1 epidemiologist within the Fulton County Board of Health. The Fellow should expect to work in-person, although a hybrid work schedule may become available to the fellow based on performance.
The Fellow can expect to engage in a variety of routine epidemiologic activities in this position including:
- Cross-training in enteric diseases and congregate setting outbreak management.
- Performing various data analysis asks for the Epi Office.
In addition to regular duties, the Fellow will need to complete an oral/poster presentation and at least two required analytic, evaluation, or quality improvement projects. Examples of projects in this district include:
- Working on an annual report on viral hepatitis in Fulton County. This may involve establishing an internal data infrastructure for compiling and analyzing available disease data, instituting a process for creating data visualizations, identifying best practices for mapping disease in sub-county units of geography, and ultimately producing an annual report that is both responsive to Georgia’s Viral Hepatitis Elimination Plan and useful for addressing the hepatitis epidemic in our jurisdiction.
- Using GIS skills to focus on creating maps or using SAS to analyze surveillance data.
- Participating in outbreak response in congregate settings. This involves working within the surveillance system in the new outbreak management system PHIRE and learning how to work with community partners to respond and mitigate infectious disease outbreaks.
- Collaborating with other departments to support efforts in emergency response epidemiology, foodborne illness investigations, and multi-jurisdictional disease responses.
Preferred Fellow background and skills include:
- Experience working with Excel.
