District 3-4 Gwinnett, Newton, Rockdale

This fellowship position is in District 3-4 Gwinnett, Newton, Rockdale (GNR) in Lawrenceville, Georgia. The fellow selected for this position will be an employee of Emory University’s Rollins School of Public Health for the duration of the fellowship but will spend their time working as a level 1 epidemiologist within the GNR District.  The Fellow should expect to work in-person, although a hybrid work schedule may become available to the fellow based on performance.

The Fellow can expect to engage in a variety of routine epidemiologic activities in this position including:

  • Engaging in disease investigation activities for animal bites/rabies and arboviral diseases.
  • Participating in daily on-call functionality and assisting with outbreak and case investigations for other notifiable disease.
  • Cross-training in all notifiable diseases.
  • Providing education and infection control guidance to the community by phone or via Zoom.

In addition to regular duties, the Fellow will need to complete an oral/poster presentation and at least two required analytic, evaluation, or quality improvement projects. Examples of projects in this district include:

  • Assessing community partner needs and helping to facilitate continuous, preemptive infection control trainings for our long-term care facility partners. The Fellow will work collaboratively with community partners (schools, daycares, jails, and long-term care facilities), Nurse Epidemiologist, Environmental Epidemiologist, School Nurse Liaison, and others on the Epidemiology and Infectious Disease teams.
  • Collaborating with the Epidemiology and Infectious Disease teams to continue to standardize and improve program evaluation and analytics.
  • Participating in outreach and education efforts aimed at the provision of equitable and inclusive services for the population disproportionately impacted with the HIV epidemic.

Preferred Fellow background and skills include:
